I live in Spearwood, south of Fremantle and work at Curtin University. I ride 24 km each way to work, which takes me about an hour each way. Unfortunately, the prevailing winds in the mornings and evenings means that I have a headwind each way in summer! Keeps me fit, if a little tired. I ride a Trek womens' specific road bike with a seat post rack and small bag + panniers for my gear. It just fits an iPad but days I bring my clothes to work or bring work home I need to also carry a backpack.
I like it that I get to keep fit while travelling to and from work. The end of trip facilities are not bad at Curtin, but having better secure areas for bicycles would make a big difference! I recently rode in the 5 Dams challenge - 238 km including quite a bit of climbing. I hadn't had time to do as much training as I would have liked, but the commuting plus a long ride every weekend seemed to get me through!
