AGL and APA are seeking approval for the building of an LNG import facility and pipeline in Western Port, Victoria. The area is environmentally sensitive, in the middle of a Ramsar wetland, and has generated fierce community, Council and MP opposition. DEA’s Submission.
The proposal is a fossil fuel infrastructure project that will lock in Victorian gas use for the next decades, completely at odds with our RET’s of 50% renewables by 2030, and the urgent need to reduce emissions to address our climate health emergency. DEA has provided a submission to the Environmental Effects Statement, concluding that the project poses unacceptable risks to community health and the environment, which the EES has failed to properly address.
