Perth neurologist and DEA member Dr Carolyn Orr is a fearless and inspiring campaigner and public speaker, and a powerful advocate against fossil fuels in the interest of human health. In her recent TEDxUWA talk, she explains the link between health, air pollution, fossil fuels, and climate change. As medical professionals, the climate crisis is very much ‘in our lane’.
“How we choose to act will determine not only our own health, but the health of our children, and our children children, for generations to come,” says Dr Orr.
Dr Orr explains that a world without coal, oil or gas will be cleaner, healthier and safer for us all. She believes that each of us has the power and the responsibility to help hasten the transition to a world without fossil fuels.

Climate care is health care

Dr Orr loves clinical care, teaching and research; and specialises in the devastating illnesses that affect cognition, including early onset dementia. She is deeply troubled by newspaper articles about climate change. She resisted the temptation to turn away and instead learned about the deep connections between our environment and human health. Many apparently unexplained human illness come from environmental pollution and extreme weather as a result of our changing climate.
