DEA welcomes Victoria’s ambitious targets to net-zero emissions by 2045

Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) welcomes the Victorian Government’s emission reduction targets of 75-80% by 2035 and a net zero target by 2045 (brought forward from 2050).

DEA has been advocating in this space for some time, and are pleased to see that the Victorian government has adopted these specific recommendations, recognising the importance of proactive action for a healthy planet and healthy people.

In addition to our formal submission in response to consultation for Victoria’s emissions reduction target for 2035 (requesting an 80% ERT by 2035), we were involved in round table discussions held by DELWP with key stakeholders, and discussed our recommendations with the advisor to the Minister for the Environment and Climate action.

We hope (and need) to see more watershed moments like this around Australia, with all levels of government showing strong climate leadership.

We thank all our members for their ongoing support so we can continue our advocacy nationwide.
