Joint DEA & AMA webinar: Climate change and sustainability: leadership and action from Australian doctors

Co-hosted by Doctors for the Environment Australia and the Australian Medical Association, this webinar once again brought together medical professionals and Australia’s medical colleges to facilitate the sharing of information, updating of activities and showcase the work being done in the healthcare sector to improve carbon footprints and sustainability practices.

It provided an avenue to learn from each other and national leaders, including from an Indigenous perspective. It explored why high value care is low carbon care, whilst highlighting the duty of care of medical professionals to lead.

Speakers included:

  • The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Federal Health Minister
  • Prof Alexandra Barratt, Professor in School of Public Health, University of Sydney
  • Prof Nick Talley, Editor-in-Chief for Medical Journal of Australia, gastroenterologist
  • Dr Karen Nicholls, Trainee Support Lead, Australian Indigenous Doctors Association.

All medical colleges were invited to update participants on their climate change and sustainability activities, following the first successful webinar in 2021.
